The Library Music Film is screening in Glasgow on the 31st May with DJs playing, what we're sure will be, a fine selection of Library records. This is gonna be ace, advance tickets only
Film screening: 7.00pm - 8.40pm (99 mins)
Some of the best music ever written… and it was never made available to the public. Composed and recorded for use in film, television broadcasts and advertising, and covering every genre, instrument and atmosphere, library music was an an off-the-shelf option cheaper than commissioning a composer to score a soundtrack.
In its golden era from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s, thousands of albums were created by the world’s greatest composers using full orchestras in the best recording studios, with the best engineers and recording equipment. Only available on vinyl and only given to industry professionals, library music albums had tiny production runs; sometimes only 200 copies were pressed, and most were destroyed in the 1990s. Despite its rarity, this music now has a loyal and growing following of DJs, tastemakers, record producers, beatmakers, journalists and vinyl enthusiasts, and library music tracks have been sampled to form the backbone of some of the biggest chart-topping singles by contemporary artists.
In a documentary fronted by record producer, composer and enthusiast Shawn Lee, The Library Music Film takes viewers from London across Europe and to California in search of some of library music’s pioneers, including Alan Hawkshaw, Keith Mansfield, John Cameron, Barbara Moore, Janko Nilovic, Brian Bennett and Stefano Torossi. And in interviews with DJs and producers including Fatboy Slim, US hip hop stars such as Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5) and Young Einstein (Ugly Duckling), DJ Format, Johnny Trunk, and Marvels soundtrack composer Adrian Younge, we hear why library music continues to play an important role in today’s music industry.
In its pursuit of a fascinating parallel universe to the record industry we think we know, The Library Music Film serves up musical innovators past and present, hidden sonic treasures and a lot of laughter along the way.
DJs Mr Divine and Dr Crawford, both long-time collectors of library music, will be playing records in Saramago (CCA Cafe-Bar) before the film screening (5.00pm - 7.00pm). Join us after the film in Saramago for the Art School Degree Show Party, with Divine and guests spinning retro funky grooves...

Due in stock soon from Blood Orange Records
Remastered from the original studio tapes by Güs Sissüm - this EP includes an alternate Dead or Alive, a far better produced Gimme Some Head with sharper vocals/leads/backup vocals, a previously unreleased 1982 interview clip from UNH as well as Occupation - unreleased because GG thought it was too much of a pop song for the Jabbers. The song was bootlegged and released previously at the wrong speed and with terrible audio quality. Comes with booklet full of info including the true story behind the GSH sessions and what happened as a result of them. Don't miss out on this one!

BLOOD LAKE is the most fascinating -- and stupefying -- shot-on-video slasher that ever escaped from 1987. A group of unhinged party animals, including adolescent horn-dog Lil' Tony, embark on a weekend trip filled with Jet Skis, a keg of Busch, and an extended game of quarters. But look out! There's a supernatural killer on the loose who wears cowboy boots and a silk shirt with a rose stitched on it! Made by real-life friends from Oklahoma on a real-life vacation, BLOOD LAKE is a rewardingly lethal collision of '80s slasher video-vomit and twisted cinéma vérité madness. From false metal soundtrack hits to gratuitous scenes of people sleeping, this might be the only movie in history capable of receiving a stamp of approval from both David Lee Roth and Andy Warhol.

After being awakened from the grave, Eric Longfellow (Don Leifert) takes up residence in a sleepy suburban cul-de-sac outside of Baltimore, establishing himself as a respected music teacher while secretly roaming the nearby woods, stalking and strangling young women so as to take over their life force. As residents descend into panic and paranoia, Longfellow’s neighbor becomes increasingly suspicious of his unaccounted wanderings, unaware of his evil powers and unquenchable need for fresh victims.
The second feature film directed by Baltimore’s best-kept filmmaking secret, the legendary self-taught auteur Don Dohler, FIEND is a meticulously made supernatural suspense thriller. Massacre Video proudly presents this under-seen 1980 ghoul fest in glorious HD, newly restored in 2k from its original 16mm A/B rolls, featuring rare archive interviews with the cast plus much more!
