Subhuman

Of classic, original first generation horror fanzines, none were more iconic than Cecil Doyle’s Subhuman - one of the sleaziest and most accomplished fanzines of the 1980s. Picking up where originators like Sleazoid Express left off in 1984, dedicated psychotronic shlock, arthouse oddities, and grindhouse smut in the vhs tape trading era.
With iconic collage artwork, reader letter responses, and an infamous cast of well connected penpal contributors in tune with the underground who would go on to make names for themselves in the horror zine scene, Subhuman isn’t just one of the best zines of its period, it’s a time capsule of freak culture in the pre internet world.
This book compiles 18 issues across 160 pages with an introduction by Cecil Doyle and retrospective pieces by Kris Gilpin and Greg Goodsell.
