Val Lewton is of course best remembered as the creative genius behind a bunch of brilliant creepy low budget horrors made for RKO. I Walked With a Zombie, Bedlam, Cat People, Curse of the Cat People, are probably the beast known. However he started off as a writer. If you are a fan of Lewton's work or want to find out about him this timely reissue of one of his “hot books” , by Kingly Reprieve, is well worth picking up, the forwarding essay byDamien Love places it in context with the rest of his career and times . A gem!
