The entrance to Universal Studios is patrolled by "Characters" from the big (and small) screen. They earn a precarious living by providing local colour and charging a small fee for photographs. Dave Markey's documentary is a riveting human drama about people who exist as an everyday part of Hollywoodland but are not officially recognised by the local authorities.
